Our journey continued to another site steeped in spiritual significance which is Jabal al-Nour. Nestled in the rugged hills surrounding Mecca, this remarkable place not only offers breathtaking views but also brings us closer to the story of revelation. Standing in the shadow of Jabal al-Nour, where the Cave of Hira resides, we felt a deep connection to the profound moment when the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed.
Revelation Museum [ Muzium Wahyu ]
We ventured into the Hira' Cultural District, a place that is significant for its breathtaking views and proximity to the Cave of Hira. Our first stop was the Revelation Museum which beautifully showcases the story of the Quran's revelation. The exhibits offered a profound glimpse into the life of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w and the early years of Islam. Interactive displays and informative panels brought to life the struggles and triumphs faced by those who first embraced the message of Islam.
Walking through the museum, I was captivated by the themes of faith, perseverance and divine guidance woven into every exhibit. It was a powerful reminder of how those initial revelations not only shaped the life of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) but also left an indelible mark on humanity.
One exhibit that stood out to me was the Mushaf Sulam, a personal project by Naseem Akhtar from Pakistan. She started it at the age of 30 and over 32 years, handwrote and embroidered it, completing it at the age of 62. Naseem later donated her work during the Hajj season in 1440 AH. Seeing her creation was profoundly moving. Her unwavering dedication, patience and consistency in completing such a monumental project left me reflecting on my own approach to goals. I often seek quick results and underestimate the value of persistence. This masterpiece reminded me that truly meaningful and lasting achievements demand time, effort, and patience.
Culinary Offerings in Makkah
Next, we stop by the café at the Saudi Coffee Museum to enjoy the local taste.
We spent six days in Makkah, dedicating our time to performing as many acts of worship as possible. Visiting the Kaabah is more than just a religious duty; it is an invitation to reconnect with your faith on a deeper level. It is an opportunity to experience a sense of serenity and closeness to Allah that is unparalleled. May Allah grant everyone the chance to experience this extraordinary blessing and find fulfillment and peace in their journey to Makkah.
En Route to Taif
After immersing ourselves in Makkah, our umrah journey led us to Taif, a serene mountain city renowned for its cooler climate, lush landscapes and deep historical ties to the life of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
As the bus rolled away from the bustling streets of Makkah, I settled into my seat, eagerly anticipating the beauty that awaited me in Taif. The journey was a picturesque one, spanning just over an hour. Along the way, I caught glimpses of traditional Arab homes nestled in the foothills, a reminder of the rich culture that thrives in this region. See more picture here.
Upon arrival at Hotel around 5:15 PM, I was instantly enveloped in the hotel’s charm. The spacious room boasted multiple sections, with a luxurious, comfy bed calling my name. But first, I couldn’t resist the allure of the swimming pool. I dipped my feet into the cool water, letting the warmth of the day melt away.

As the evening drew near, I returned to my room to rest. My throat ached and a cough lingered, but I was determined to savor the comfort of a good meal. At 7:30 PM, dinner arrived and I couldn’t have asked for better. A comforting spread of fluffy white rice, fragrant tom yam with tender chicken, and a perfectly cooked telur dadar made my heart sing.Â
The next morning began early with Subuh prayers at 6 AM. Afterward, I documented my reflections in digital journal, capturing the essence of my Umrah journey. Breakfast was a simple Nasi Lemak—unfortunately, I had to skip the sambal due to severe cough, but it was enough to fuel my spirit for the day. By 10:30 AM, we checked out of the hotel, feeling refreshed and ready to embrace the day’s explorations.
Exploring Taif Landmarks
Our journey began at the Ibnu Abbas Mosque, where I marveled at its intricate architecture and tranquil atmosphere. Standing before the Abdullah Ibn Abbas Library (pictured below), I was immersed in the profound legacy of its namesake. Abdullah Ibn Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w, was celebrated for his deep understanding of the Quran and Hadith. His relentless pursuit of knowledge earned him the title "Habr al-Ummah" (Scholar of the Nation).
The library, established alongside the mosque bearing his name, serves as a beacon for scholars and seekers of knowledge. As I stood there, I couldn't help but reflect on the timeless importance of seeking knowledge and the profound impact one individual can have on preserving and disseminating wisdom.
Afterward, we wandered into a local shop that specialized in honey. One of the traditional ways to enjoy this exquisite honey is by pairing it with Mullah bread, a staple in Taif's culinary scene.
Next, we made a stop at charming rose factory, where the aroma of blooming roses filled the air. I treated myself to a Rose Latte, a delightful drink priced at SAR 18. The flavors danced on my palate, a perfect prelude to my upcoming lunch.
For lunch, we visited Maatam Kabsaa, a renowned establishment in Taif celebrated for its authentic Arabian cuisine. There, we indulged in Kabsa, a traditional Saudi dish featuring tender chicken and perfectly cooked meat, served with aromatic rice.
Finally, we indulged in the best Kunafa I’ve ever tasted. Crispy on the outside, soft and rich on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness, it was the perfect way to end an unforgettable meal.
After an amazing lunch, we headed to the Al Hada Cable Car station, but our plans were delayed when heavy rain and thunder forced some of us to remain on the bus from 2 PM to 6 PM. I found solace in the company of fellow travelers, sharing stories as we watched the rain wash over the landscape. As the storm subsided, I took a moment to reflect on the unpredictability of travel, knowing that each twist and turn is part of the adventure.
By 6 PM, we rushed to Jeddah Airport. As we made our way there, the rain poured down in torrents, turning the streets into rivers. It felt almost like a flood, adding an unexpected twist to an already long day. By the time we reached Jeddah Airport around 9PM, my energy was running low and I found myself yearning for the comfort of home.
It was time to fly back to Malaysia, where I could rest and reflect on the meaningful Umrah journey I had just experienced. As the familiar Malaysia Airlines tagline, "Selamat Kembali ke Tanah Air," echoed in my mind, I felt a sense of relief. Grateful for the rich experiences and insights I had gained, I looked forward to the simple comforts of home, knowing that this journey would continue to shape me long after I returned. May Allah bestow His infinite mercy upon us and grant us the blessed opportunity to return to the sacred lands of Tanah Haram.
I agree, the spot has the best Kunafa ever! How do you find the Pistachio Latte, sweet or just nice?
The first revelation in Gua Hira, Iqra! means Read (insert crying emoji here) hence why Reading and learning must be in the way of Allah, to gain closeness to Him
The Revelation Museum takes you on a captivating journey through stunning holographic and interactive displays, all building up to its crowning jewel—the Mushaf Sulam. Tucked at the end of the corridor, this gem did stopped me in my tracks, inviting me to savor every detail of its brilliance. Its really a masterpiece!
